Salvage

Sixty wrecks lie on the bottom of every ocean, from small hulls on the sandbars to a hulk in the abyss that nobody has reached. Everything they carried is still down there.

Wrecks

Shipwreck Scrap TimberScrap TimberBroken, waterlogged planking off a wreck. A yard that knows Timber Reclaiming makes timber of some of it; any merchant buys it for Sea Silver. Rusted IronRusted IronFittings, chain and nails, all flaking orange. The Breaker's Yard will get iron back out of it. Brackish RumBrackish RumCasks that took on seawater. Not drinkable, but the yard can distil something out of it. Sodden PowderSodden PowderWet powder from a split magazine. Dried and re-milled at the yard, a little of it will fire again. Bilge CoinBilge CoinCoin fused with verdigris and sand from a strongbox on the bottom. The yard cleans it for gold.

  • Wrecks lie on open water like fish schools, shared by everyone, and show where you have charted. Pick one clean and another goes down somewhere else in the ocean.
  • Seven kinds at four depths, from a hull on a sandbar to a hulk in the abyss. Deeper wrecks hold more and guard it better.
  • Salvage is a mission. One salvage hull works the wreck, a better hull works faster and recovers more, and the rest of the fleet carries: bring hauling ships, since you only bring home what the holds can hold.
  • The fleet sits over the wreck while it works, and the chart shows the hold filling up.

The Salvage Ladder

  • The Salvage Barge works the shallows. The Wrecking Lugger reaches the reefs, the Diving Bell Ship the deep, the Bathysphere Tender the abyss.
  • Two new research lines. Salvage lifts more every level and opens the deeper hulls; Shipbreaking runs the yard faster and opens more salvage missions at once.

Ruined Goods and the Yard

  • A lift comes home as ruined goods: Scrap Timber, Rusted Iron, Brackish Rum, Sodden Powder, Bilge Coin, and a little Barnacle Lime.
  • The Breaker's Yard refines a good once you have learned its manual. Five manuals per good, each better than the last and each needing the one before it. The first are sold in Ironwright Guild towns; the rest come from the Guild's salvage quests and the wrecks themselves, the best only from the abyss.
  • Separate scrolls teach the yard to turn up Sea-Cured Oak, Sea Silver and naval stores as it works. Nothing else makes the oak or the silver, and the deeper hulls, the top of both research lines and the biggest yards all want them.
  • Any merchant buys ruined goods for Sea Silver, and they trade at the market and ship between your ports, so a pile you cannot refine yet is never dead.

The Salvor's Set

The Diver's Bell The Salvor's Grapnel The Salvor's Lead Line The Brass Bathyscope

Four relics found on the wrecks and nowhere else: the Diver's Bell and the Salvor's Grapnel make a salvage fleet recover more of what it takes, the Salvor's Lead Line and the Brass Bathyscope make it work faster. The deeper the wreck, the finer the find, and the abyss keeps the best two. Wrecks also give up map pieces and chests now and then.

The Drowned

Drowned Galleon

Only the abyssal hulks give up a ship, and only to a Bathysphere Tender: three new unique ships that exist nowhere else. They come home wrecked and the Drydock puts them back to sea.

Salvage has its own achievements, with the title Wreckmaster at the top of them.

Fishing and Cooking to 50

Bluefin TunaBluefin TunaFishThe great fish of the open sea. Taking one is a day's work for the whole boat. 100-1000 lbs. Cooks into Bluefin Tartare. Giant SquidGiant SquidFishEyes like dinner plates and arms that have scarred whales. Hauled up half-dead and still fought. 100-600 lbs. Cooks into Squid Ink Stew. Hammerhead SharkHammerhead SharkFishIts strange head sweeps the sand for what is buried. Gives the fleet a wide berth, usually. 100-500 lbs. Cooks into Shark Fin Broth. Conger EelConger EelFishThick as a man's arm and lives in the wrecks. Do not put a hand in the hole. 10-100 lbs. Cooks into Conger Stew.

Fishing and Cooking can now reach level 50. Between 31 and 50 the waters open up:

  • Fish: Bluefin Tuna, Bonefish, Pike, Moray Eel, King Salmon, Giant Squid, Mullet, Permit, Striped Bass, Hammerhead Shark, Conger Eel.
  • Recipes: Wolffish Stew, Bluefin Tartare, Conch Chowder, Perch Stew, Squid Ink Stew, Poached Salmon, Braised Moray, Bonefish Fry, Grilled Tuna, Shark Fin Broth, Tiger Shark Steak, Prawn Bisque.
  • A recipe scroll can only be learned once you have the cooking level for it; the scroll says what it needs.

Revered

Quest Salvage Leviathan

  • Every faction now has quests for captains with Revered reputation or higher, the Deepwater Accord included (a Kraken Hunt among them). Big fleets, long voyages, and the materials the top of the game spends.
  • The Ironwright Guild has salvage work at every standing: Reef Salvage, Deep Salvage and Raising the Hulk, each wanting the hull that reaches that depth.
  • The four fleet-strength quests (Harbour Defence, Pirate Extermination, Convoy Strike, Fortress Assault) pay standing with their faction.
  • A town's board leans toward the bigger jobs the higher your standing.

The Store

Membership

  • All store items have been removed and redistributed throughout the game. Membership is now the only thing for sale in Dunmast.
  • Every flag piece is earned by playing, and each one says in the flag editor what earns it.
  • Achievements pay them: a piece on a rung, and the finest (Sea Serpent, Dragon, Trophy, Silver) on the category titles.
  • Members fly a set of their own: Royal Galleon, Cutlass, Ship Wheel, Nordic Cross, Checkerboard, Royal Blue and Maroon.

Other

ShipyardShipyardBuildingBuilds ships. Higher levels unlock larger vessels. Alliance Hall Rogue

  • Ships and defences built in a batch now arrive one at a time as the timer runs. Order ten and the first is in the harbour after a tenth of the time, not all ten at the end.
  • Alliance leaders can make up to five named ranks and choose what each one may do. Ranks and Roster, on the alliance page.
  • Every rogue pirate sunk by any captain this Pirate Day counts toward community goals. The bar is on the Chart and the Scallywag Market; something unlocks at each mark for everyone who has sunk at least one.

Also

  • The Fishing Boat and the Salvage Barge have new art, drawn side-on like the rest of the fleet.
  • Gutting an Abyssal Angler pays Fish Oil like the other fish.
  • Bounty recipes ask for the right fish.

The sea keeps nothing forever. Go and get it back.
