About Dunmast

Dunmast is a naval strategy game set in the golden age of piracy. Build your port, command your fleet, and compete with other players for dominance of the seas. It runs in your browser with no download required.

The game is built and maintained by a solo developer. The server-rendered architecture means there are no client-side frameworks, no analytics trackers, and no third-party scripts beyond Google Fonts.

Art

The artwork in Dunmast is AI-generated in a 17th century woodcut engraving style, then post-processed for consistency. This approach was chosen because it produces visually cohesive results within a constrained style, and because the alternative for a solo project is no art at all.

Tech

Node.js, Express, PostgreSQL, server-rendered HTML with HTMX. No React, no SPA, no TypeScript. Plain CSS, plain JavaScript. The game uses stateless HTTP with timers stored as timestamps. Your port grows while you're away without any persistent connection.
